Making the Magic Last After Having Children Workshop
A small group workshop for expectant parents, and parents of infants and toddlers.
Having a baby is an exciting new beginning in your relationship. You are no longer simply a couple, you have now added “parent” to your identities as a couple, and as individuals.
Becoming a parent is a special time. You and your partner are creating new dreams and setting new goals for your family. With the new responsibilities, sleepless nights, fatigue, and other stressors, your relationship with your partner may be impacted more than you might realize. In fact, research shows that three years after baby is born, two-thirds of couples experience a decrease in their relationship quality, and an increased conflict and hostility in their relationship.
It is doesn’t have to be this way. Learning how to avoid the pitfalls that the unhappy parents fall into is can be a simple matter of knowing what to look for. You don’t have to be among the two-thirds of parents mentioned above.
Making the Magic Last workshop is a small group for new and expectant parents. The focus of the workshop is your relationship as a couple, in the context of being parents.
The Making the Magic Last workshop is based on the research used to develop the Bringing Baby Home workshop, developed by The Gottman Institute. However, the Making the Magic Last workshop specifically focuses on parents’ relationships with each other and how to keep that relationship strong and satisfying through the years of being parents and beyond.
The workshop is presented in three modules in three weekly, two-hour class meetings. The weekly meetings are:
Week 1: Making the Magic Last
Week 2: Managing Stress and Conflict Regulation
Week 3: Creating a Shared Family Legacy
